My University has networking classes that follow Cisco’s curriculum. Back in 2009 I took a couple classes that used the CCNA Exploration material. Since then I’ve also taken classes that vaguely cover the CCNA Security, CCNA Wireless (the really old one), CCNP Route, and CCNP Switch. Lots of experience with a variety of hardware with these classes.
The week before I took the ICND1 test I read Wendell Odom’s book cover to cover as a refresher and to see if there was anything I was missing. There were a few small details from his book I picked up that I had somehow missed over the last few years. I even found and reported a new error in his book while I was reading it. Even got a response thanking me for it.
I watched the cbt nuggets videos a bit in between reading. The video’s are decent, more for a beginner but it made for decent background noise and it got me in the mood for more studying. He takes a long time explaining things but that’s probably a good thing for some people. I also converted his videos to MP3 so I could listen to them while driving.
I didn’t do as well on the exam as I wanted, but I set my deadline and went for it whether I was ready or not. I had been putting off getting this certification for far too long.
I hope to get at least 5 more tests out of the way as fast as I can so I guess we’ll see how that goes. I would have done them already but my instructor suggested I wait to do the tests until I’m about to graduate because they expire. I wish I did the tests when I finished the classes.
TL:DR I winged it after a quick review using Odom’s Book.
